The Zoom program automatically picks what it believes to be the "right" microphone and speaker. For those who have multiple speakers (e.g. built into your laptop and plugged in externally), it may pick the wrong ones. To fix this:
If you're already in a meeting:
1. In the bottom-left of your meeting window, click the arrow next to your Mute/Unmute button.
2. This pulls up a menu displaying your different speaker options. Pick the speaker you're wanting.
Note: These options may be named incorrectly - the option of "Headphones" highlighted in the screenshot below is actually my desktop speakers.
3. If you have multiple microphones, you can select the correct microphone in this menu as well.
If you're not in a meeting:
1. Click your profile picture or initials in the top right corner of your Zoom screen, then click Settings.
2. In the settings menu, click Audio.
3. In the Audio menu, there are sections for Speaker and Microphone.
4. Click the speaker dropdown menu. This pulls up a menu displaying your different speaker options. Pick the speaker you're wanting.
Note: These options may be named incorrectly - the option of "Headphones" highlighted in the screenshot below is actually my desktop speakers.
5. To test that those speakers are correct, click Test Speaker. It will play a little chime over your selected speaker.
6. The process is the same for changing your microphone. To test your choice, click Test Mic. It will give you a few seconds to speak into your microphone, then it will replay what you've said. If you can't hear yourself play back, select a different microphone.
